Jen Here: I liked the comments on the connection between the first and last commandments. Hadn’t thought about the fact the Israelites had very little experience or knowledge of God’s character over the past 400 years…..but they had seen the saving of many of the Hebrew babies even before Moses was born. They saw the miracles God performed during the plagues, their release from Pharaoh, food, water and safety in a desert. Their hearts should have softened, and they should have been prepared to wait for the “contract” to be drawn up. We are all “human” though.
I really liked your connection between the Basin and Baptism to approach God, the Table of the Presence, connecting to Daily Bread and the Communion Table. Excellent ways to remind us that Yahweh (breathe in and breathe out) gives us Life and our constant breathing!
