Just came across an article on CTV website that says that fruit cake may have its origins in ancient Rome: The ancient Romans are widely credited as being the first to make fruitcakes, referred to as satura. Their recipe mixed stale bread, nuts, seeds and raisins together with a barley mash. It made for an easy-to-carry and hearty treat – almost like an ancient granola bar. Also says it became popular in the Middle Ages.
    Could fruit cake been around at Jesus’ birth? Could it have been a gift from that “other” wise man that nobody talks about? ; )
