In this conversation Julia and Gavin present the grand finale of the discussion on the book of Genesis, looking at chapters 42-50! Read those chapters and listen to the audio of the conversation, and then chip in on the comments section below with your own thoughts on the Scripture and responses to these three questions:
- What word, phrase, or theme most resonated with you personally as you read this section of Scripture?
- What does this portion of Scripture invite us to as a community of disciples?
- If you’re sitting down with these chapters, what drink or snack would pair best with the reading?
Next week we look at the book of Ruth! Read it and join the conversation!

I hadn’t thought about the changes in the actions of Judah over the period of this story. His attitudes had definitely matured. And he was willing to sacrifice himself to protect Benjamin and his “unloving” father. That is a picture of the sacrifice that Jesus (his descendent) would actually make for all unloving and evil humans.
Another thing that struck me was the “scheme” of how Joseph used the Pyramid scheme to enslave all of the Egyptians to Pharaoh…..was Pharaoh actually aware and appreciative of that? And is that why the Egyptians were so ready to enslave the Hebrews a little bit later?
